Beach break surf spots
Beachbreaks Bay
My resort is located near a 5-kilometre-long bay dotted with virgin sandbanks. These banks can produce very hollow rights and lefts, ideal for bodyboarding in particular. It’s an ideal change from the reefs and a great way to get some air! There are plenty of other beachbreaks further north… the search is on!
Tea bags
Located on the island of teupah, 1 hour by boat, this right-hander rolls violently onto a point, rising out of very deep water and breaking in very little water. Can hold waves over 3 metres. The nastiest, fastest wave around, a perfect, photogenic barrel. Experienced riders only!
Reefbreak and pointbreak surf spots
Dylan’s
Located 15 minutes from the surfcamp, it’s a straight tube over 1.50m, winding around a coral point. Frontside if you miss the tube you can only blame yourself! It’s similar to lagundry at Nias, but a little shorter. A super fun wave under two metres, it becomes a tube machine above that.
The peak
My favourite wave. Located 30 minutes away by motorbike. It’s a left-right tubular peak, although the left is more regular. Two very hollow sections to negotiate under the lip at more than 1m50… A paradise for goofy foot! The peak is a wave magnet.
The school
A hollow right walking by small swell unwinding on a reef close to the edge in front of a school. Located 10 minutes from our surf camp.
Guccy’s
A long point-break left with turns and several sections to « rip ». An accessible wave for almost all levels.
One thong
Point break on the left winding into a magical bay 10 minutes from our surf resort. A long wall to express yourself… before a deeper section at the edge. An ultra consistent spot that is never flat. 500m as the crow flies.
This list doesn’t include every surf spot within half an hour’s drive of our surfcamp, far from it. We’ll give you all the information you need to find the many other waves to surf, some of which have yet to be named! You can also “hire” the services of a guide who will be happy to take you to the many spots in the area.
WHAT TO DO IN SIMEULUE, NORTH SUMATRA
If you tire of the Indian Ocean and its 28° minimum, you can cool off in the mountains along the coast further north. A swim in the cool waterfalls or a spicy lunch by the lake are a must.
A year-round surfing paradise!
Surfing is the activity for which we settled in this place bathed by the consistent swells of the Indian Ocean. Our island is located in the north-west of Indonesia, to the north of the Mentawais archipelago. The swells of the Roaring 40s and Howling 50s come up from the south, smoothing out. As a result, the fetch is one of the biggest in Indonesia, with swells regularly reaching periods of over 20 seconds.
Never a flat!
What’s more, being north of the equator, there is no rainy season here. In fact, unlike the southern part of Indonesia, we are not subject to westerly winds in winter, but to variable light winds that are ideal for surfing. So you can surf glassy swells in warm water all year round ! In winter, the swells are smaller but never flat either. You can surf here all year round on a shortboard!
The indented coastline, perfectly oriented to receive these swells, produces all types of waves and means you can always find a fallback spot in the event of a big swell (just like at home in Brittany in winter, without the cold, wind and crowds!).
So you’ll always find a wave to surf in less than half an hour’s travel from our surfcamp.
Aquatic excursion with fins, mask, snorkel
There are many spots to admire, with resplendent coral and a wide variety of fauna… turtles, rays and multicoloured reef fish will soothe you between the more sporting sessions.
Underwater hunting
For the more adventurous, come and hunt for baracudas or the many reef fish. Any fish killed must be eaten! Preferably grilled on the beach in a banana leaf…
Surf casting fishing
It is possible to fish from the reef directly from the camp and cook your fish on the beach in the process. You can also find other places by road or by hiring a boat and its captain if you wish.
Discover the island by motorbike
Take a trip on this very popular means of transport. Ride along the coast to experience the warmth of the locals, or cool off in the mountains.
Discover the surrounding islands by boat
Breathtaking scenery, both in and out of the water, a great spectacle of nature… Don’t forget something to protect you from the heat and the rays of a blazing sun. A day on the water can be tough if you’re not equipped!
Rest and coconut
Enjoying a swim in front of the resort or lounging in a hammock with a coconut and a good book are also legitimate holiday activities! Especially in a setting like this!
PRACTISING YOGA
The environment is ideal for relaxing, refocusing on yourself surrounded by nature and practising yoga. There is a deck for 10 people, in the best position to enjoy the sunset over the Indian Ocean.
