Who is Jacques?

Jacques (sometimes spelt Jacque(s)), whose full name is Jacques Auberger, is a French electronic music artist born on 18 December 1991 in Strasbourg, who has spent most of his musical career in Paris. He owes his originality to his character, identifiable in particular by his tonsure and the way he dresses… find out more

Tourist guide: what to do in Taghazout

Hello it’s Jacques! hello it’s Jacques! hello it’s Jacques! we’re in Taghazout, where I’ve been living for the last three years. I’d like to show you my favourite places, so that if you ever come to Taghazout, you can come and see them for me.

Skateboarding at the Taghazout Skatepark

Skatepark Taghazout

Here we are at the Taghazout skatepark, which is the best spot for chilling out. And this is the skatepark that was created by the skate park and skate life association, a group of guys who are trying to set up skateparks in places where skateboarding doesn’t yet exist. I came here to do some DJ sets, we did some small parties and then there was Covid, but we still did a bit. I’m hoping to do one more before I leave, inch’Allah!

Eat the best bananas: Tamri’s!

After digesting all the bananas in the area, the best bananas, I think, are the Tamri bananas, not to be confused with these bananas. And we only buy them here, so all the guys who sell them there, they sell bananas from Aourir. These are Tamri bananas, so you have to come here.

Relax with a massage at “Beautiful Massage”

This is the beautiful massage, it’s a spot in the mountains and it’s the best place to wash up but also to have a massage. It’s not a traditional hammam at all, it’s completely for tourists. But that’s also why I loved it. The hammam scene in the video I made. Every time I have friends coming, I recommend this place to them.

Eating out in a vegetarian restaurant: Let’s Be Healing Food

The best place to eat around taghazout is Let’s be café, in my opinion, after spending a year eating chicken tagine, kefta tagine and beef tagine… After a while I decided to become a vegetarian and so Let’s be café was my landmark, I think it’s the best vegetarian restaurant I know and they make excellent desserts, for me who loves sweet, I’m served.vous I come here every fortnight.

Meditating by a tree

The best place to meditate is between Ifrane and Taghazout, near this tree. You can meditate anywhere I liked meditating here is a matter of choice after as I’m going to leave the spot is available if you want to come and meditate here you are welcome.

Eating squid in Souk El Had

For me, the best fast food is Souk El Had. It’s one of the biggest souks in West Africa and includes a restaurant area, where you can eat delicious squid.

Yoga at Kalananda Yoga Studio

My favourite place to do yoga, because yes I do a little yoga, is Kalananda. It’s a place where Mum used to do yoga classes. It’s a haven of peace, and we did a yoga class here, on zoom, during the lockdown.

Tajines and grilled meats in Annahda

The best tajine I’ve ever had was in Agadir at Annahda‘s rotisserie, where people clearly know what they’re talking about when it comes to tajine. My favourite is the beef tajine, but it’s clearly more about religion at the moment.

Discover Taghazout

Nestling along Morocco’s south-west coast, Taghazout is a picturesque seaside village that has been a well-kept secret among travellers for decades. Its unspoilt beauty and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect destination for those seeking an authentic Moroccan experience, away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech or Casablanca.

Taghazout is a place where time seems to slow down. The rhythm of life here is dictated by the ebb and flow of the tides, and the days are punctuated by the call to prayer from the local mosque. It’s a place where you can really relax, disconnect from the stresses of modern life and reconnect with nature.

The village itself is a charming maze of narrow streets, whitewashed buildings and colourful shop fronts. As you stroll through its streets, you’ll meet friendly locals who will greet you with warm smiles and a hospitality that is characteristic of Moroccan culture.

One of the first things you’ll notice about Taghazout is its magnificent coastline. The village is perched on a rocky head with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The sound of waves breaking on the shore is constant company, and the salty sea breeze awakens your senses.

Surf enthusiasts from all over the world flock to Taghazout for its world-class waves. The village is known as one of Morocco’s leading surfing destinations, attracting surfers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros. The constant swell and warm waters make it a great place to catch a wave, and there are plenty of surf schools and rental shops where you can get kitted up and surf.

But Taghazout offers much more than just incredible waves. It’s a place where you can explore Morocco’s natural beauty, from steep cliffs and sandy beaches to breathtaking sunsets that paint the sky in shades of orange and pink.

As the sun sets over the Atlantic, casting a golden glow over the village, you’ll understand why Taghazout is a destination that captures the hearts of all who visit. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with yourself and the beauty of nature.

The Rich History of Taghazout

Taghazout is not just about golden sandy beaches and spectacular waves; it’s also a place steeped in a rich history that stretches back centuries. To fully understand this coastal village, it is essential to explore its fascinating past.

The earliest traces of Taghazout’s history date back to Berber times, when the area was inhabited by the Amazigh, Morocco’s indigenous people. The Amazighs left their mark on Taghazout’s culture and identity, and you can still see elements of their heritage in everyday life in the village.

Over the years, Taghazout has been influenced by various civilisations, including the Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs. Each has helped to shape the history and culture of this region. Taghazout’s rich history is also linked to fishing, which for generations was the main source of livelihood for the inhabitants.

A major event that left its mark on Taghazout was the arrival of Islam in Morocco in the 7th century. Islam became an integral part of daily life, and you will see magnificent mosques throughout the village. The call to prayer echoing through the narrow streets is a constant reminder of the spirituality that permeates life in Taghazout.

More recently, Taghazout has become a popular destination for travellers seeking an authentic experience. In the 1960s, the village attracted hippies in search of freedom and tranquillity. Their artistic and cultural influence lives on today, and you can discover local art galleries displaying contemporary works inspired by the bohemian spirit of the time.

So as you explore Taghazout, keep in mind that every street corner, every ancient building and every smiling face tells a story. Past and present blend harmoniously in this coastal village, creating a unique and captivating atmosphere.
